Should I get pet insurance before adopting a pet?
Asked 2 years ago
I am planning on rescuing either a dog or a cat this summer. I'm busy preparing everything I need at home, but I was wondering if I should get the insurance process going before I've adopted the dog or after? Hopefully the shelter would see that I'm serious.

The best time to buy pet insurance is when you bring your new family member home. If you're rescuing a pet, consider the pet's age when determining whether pet insurance for a rescued dog or cat is worth it. Due to the exclusions of pre-existing conditions, it is best to buy pet insurance while your pet is still young. Older pets can become more susceptible to injury or illness, so prices for a policy will likely be higher than if the pet was younger.
