How soon do dogs begin to exhibit symptoms of canine arthritis?

Asked a year ago

I'm thinking about adopting a dog from my local pet shelter, and I'd like a large dog, such as a golden retriever. I've been researching the health problems I should be aware of, and I'm concerned about arthritis. I know it can be difficult to pinpoint at first, so I'm curious how quickly it can develop in a dog.

Larger breeds such as Golden retrievers are prone to developing arthritis earlier than other breeds. Puppies that grow up on a high-quality diet created especially for larger breeds tend to have healthier joints, but, of course, there’s no way to know what a shelter dog’s diet was like before.

Large dogs can start showing signs of arthritis as early as five years of age. If they already have other skeletal problems such as hip dysplasia, osteoarthritis can appear even earlier.

A good joint supplement can help prevent joint wear and tear and it’s a great idea for a shelter pup!
